Post-Christmas Happenings

Some of the best days, at least in my book, are the ones that follow Christmas.  I know a lot of people feel a  big let-down after Christmas but for me I find these days comforting.  Partially because I find Christmas overwhelmingly stressful (Did I help my children create lasting memories?  Am I over-doing the gift giving?  Am I under-doing it?  Did I forget someone's gift?  Where did I put __________?  You get the idea.) and partly because I'm a creature of habit.  While it's fun to have a change I find great comfort in the day-to-day happenings.

And so, in the days that imminently follow Christmas, we get to enjoy all of the lovely gifts we received (and gave) we don't have a lot planned (everyone is still re-cooperating!) and our days are slower and plan-less.  Just what this mama needs!

I too am a fan of the normal routine! I love holidays, but now that I'm a parent, being in charge of other's enjoyment adds enough stress that the normal breakfast-outing-lunch-naps-movie-play-dinner-bath-bed thing starts to look like a welcome relief. Children love the unexpectedness of holidays--but that very thig also makes them (and thus me!) a bit cranky.

I agree with the wonderful comfort of routine. As much as I look forward to putting the Christmas tree up and enjoying it, I always welcome the day that it comes down (which will be mid-January this year because I am not going to do it till we get home.)
